The field trip that comes to you.
Buses cost money. Permission slips take weeks. Most districts are down to one field trip a year, if that. So we built the field trip to travel in the other direction — it arrives in your classroom, in a box, or in your gym.
We make Earth Science adventures — twelve of them, from Treasure Mountain to Storm Chasers — and every one ends in a real excavation.
What it costs
| What you get | Price |
|---|---|
| Free resource library — lessons, worksheets and guides, plus the free online adventures | Free, permanently |
| The PTA programme — families buy through your school's link, we donate one kit to the school for every kit sold | Free to the school |
| Adventure Kits — twelve adventures to choose from; every student excavates, identifies and keeps six real specimens | $19.99 per kit |
| Class Kit — the same kit, priced for whole classrooms | $15 per student 15-student minimum ($225) |
| In-school field trip — we turn your gym into a dig site for a day | $795 for the day + $15 per student 60-student minimum |
Each works on its own. Most schools start at the top and work down.
The kit
Every Adventure Kit is built the same way: six Digs with the specimen name hidden under a scratch-off, six real specimens in a six-compartment tray, six 3D-printed Gemlings in a blind bag, six matching trading cards, and the Realm map. The adventure changes — Treasure Mountain, Lava Safari, Storm Chasers and nine more — the format doesn't.
Discover. Identify. Collect. Students play the free online adventure, dig out the real specimens, work out what they found, and keep it all.
$19.99 per kit, or $15 per student for classrooms (15-student minimum). Browse the twelve adventures or see classroom pricing.
Free kits through your PTA
Buy one, we give one to the school. When a family buys a kit through your school's link, we send them theirs — and we send an identical one to your school, free.
The link is a tracking link and nothing else. It doesn't change the price and there's no code for families to enter. Its only job is to tell us which orders came from your school so we know how many kits to send back.
No selling, no order forms, no money for anyone to collect. Thirty families ordering puts a full classroom set on your shelf at no cost to the school. See how the PTA programme works.
The in-school field trip, in detail
We arrive, set up inflatable dig structures and projection across your gym, and run the day in three phases: an in-class lesson that sets up the dig, the excavation itself across six themed stations, then the identification and reveal.
Every child leaves with the complete Adventure Kit — the Digs, six real specimens, the Gemlings, the trading cards and the map. Not a goody bag. The whole thing.
Capacity is up to six sessions in a day, 36 students per session — 216 students total. 60-student minimum booking.
The booking fee is per day, not per session
Which means the more of the day you fill, the less each student costs:
| Students | Sessions | Total | Per student |
|---|---|---|---|
| 60 (minimum) | 2 | $1,695 | $28.25 |
| 108 | 3 | $2,415 | $22.36 |
| 144 | 4 | $2,955 | $20.52 |
| 216 (full day) | 6 | $4,035 | $18.68 |
A full day works out at less than nineteen dollars a child — and that includes the kit they take home.
One person runs these days, so the calendar is the constraint. Booked dates are gone; there is no second team. If you have a week in mind, say so early.
The lessons are free
Everything that goes around the kit — the online adventures, lessons, worksheets, identification guides, printables — is free on this site and stays free. No student logins, no teacher dashboard, no accounts to set up, no IT ticket. Open a link and go.
You're buying the excavation. The teaching is free.
Common questions
Is there a minimum order?
Individual Adventure Kits have no minimum at $19.99. Classroom pricing — $15 per student — has a 15-student minimum ($225).
What grades is this for?
K–5. Younger students dig and match specimens to cards; older students do the identification work properly — hardness, lustre, how the rock formed. Each adventure lists its own grade range.
How do we quote a whole grade level?
Multiply your headcount by fifteen. A grade of 90 is $1,350. If you need a formal quote for a purchase order, email info@excavatingadventures.com with your headcount and we'll send one the same day.
Do you take purchase orders?
Yes. Email info@excavatingadventures.com with your school, headcount and billing contact.
How do we get kits without spending anything?
Through the PTA programme. Every kit a family buys through your school's link, we donate an identical kit to your school — one for one. Around thirty family orders is a full classroom set. Details here.
What do we need on the day of an in-school field trip?
A gym or similar open space and access to power. We bring everything else — inflatables, projection, stations, kits.
