Wild Earth Expedition
A living realm where roots break through the ceiling and light finds its way down — half of it thriving, half of it stripped bare. Six stops, six problems to put right, six Digs to recover. Free, no logins, no accounts. Led by Earthling, the Realm's hero Adventureling.
Assigning one stop
- Every stop has its own address. Stop 4 is
/pages/wild-earth-expedition#stop-4— paste it straight into Google Classroom. - Progress is remembered on the device, so a class can do one stop a week and pick up where it left off.
- Each stop runs 10–15 minutes. The finale needs all six done first.
The six stops
1. The Root CavernRoots drink water and hold the soil in place. Leaves catch sunlight and make the tree's food. The trunk carries water up from the roots to the leaves.2. The Sunken GrovePlants hold soil in place. Take the plants away and rain washes the loose soil downhill. That is erosion.3. The Clear SpringRain that soaks into the ground is filtered by the soil and comes out clear. Rain that runs across a hard surface picks up loose dirt and carries it into the water.4. The Solar ForgeAlmost all the energy in living things starts at the Sun. Plants catch sunlight and make their own food. Animals get energy by eating plants, or by eating the animals that ate the plants.5. The Coal SeamCoal, oil and natural gas formed from buried living things over millions of years — burn them and they are gone. Sunlight, wind and moving water keep coming back.6. Firefly HollowFireflies signal to each other with flashes of light. Bright artificial light drowns out those signals, and fireflies need long, damp grass to live in.

The adventure is free and always will be. The Wild Earth Expedition kit
adds the part a screen cannot do: six real specimens, six Digs that come sealed with the label scratched off,
six Gemlings in a blind bag, and the printed map with Earthling on it. Finish a stop online and that location's
Dig is yours to open for real.
