Weather vs Climate

In the Dead Calm, today's weather has been switched off entirely — but the climate is still running. Telling the two apart is the fix.

What you're training for

In the Dead Calm, nothing moves — not even the fog. The air comes back for whoever can sort weather statements from climate statements without a miss. Train here first; prove it in the simulation.

The science

  • Weather is what it's like right now — raining this afternoon, windy tonight.
  • Climate is what it's like most of the time, year after year — snowy winters, dry deserts, hot summers.
  • The memory trick: weather picks today's outfit; climate fills your closet.
  • One test: could it change by tomorrow? Then it's weather. Does it take years of records to know? That's climate.

Teach it today — no prep

Closet or outfit? Read statements — "it's raining right now", "snow falls here every winter", "a storm is coming tonight", "the desert is dry all year" — and students call outfit (weather) or closet (climate). Then start a daily class weather log: by month's end, the log itself starts showing your town's climate.

Trained and ready? Prove it at Stop 3 — the Dead Calm. Free, no logins, progress saved on the device.
