Aftershocks & Earthquake Safety
The main quake is over but Trembling Hollow hasn't stopped moving. What you do in the next ten seconds decides whether you walk out.
What you're training for
In Trembling Hollow, grit is pouring off the ceiling and an aftershock is rolling through. Getting out means making the right call, instantly. Train here first; prove it in the simulation.
The science
- Aftershocks are smaller quakes that follow the main one — sometimes for days — as the fault settles into its new position.
- In shaking, the thing that hurts you is falling objects, not the ground itself.
- The rule is Drop, Cover, Hold On — get low, get under something sturdy, protect your head, and hold your cover so it stays over you.
- The doorway trick is a myth from old unreinforced buildings — modern doorways are no stronger than the rest of the wall, and running outside puts you under falling debris.
Teach it today — no prep
Hazard hunt + drill. First, students survey the room: what would actually fall in a quake? List it. Then run Drop, Cover, Hold On for real — ten seconds, timed. Finish with the myth check: doorway, running outside, or under the desk — which one does the science back? It's a drill they may genuinely need, taught as a game.
