Volcanic Gases & Pressure
Every steam vent in the Realm is plugged solid and the ground is humming. Gas has to go somewhere — and letting it out on purpose beats letting it out by surprise.
What you're training for
At the Spark Vents, the plugs are starting to lift. The vents clear safely for whoever can run the pressure story in the right order. Train here first; prove it in the simulation.
The science
- Magma holds dissolved gas the way a sealed fizzy drink holds bubbles — you can't see it until the pressure drops.
- As magma rises, the weight above it lessens, pressure falls, and the gas comes out of solution as swelling bubbles.
- The bubbles push upward and need an escape route — vents, fumaroles, the volcano's own throat.
- Trapped gas is what makes eruptions violent: it's the fizz, not the melt, that does the blasting.
Teach it today — one soda bottle
The two-bottle eruption. Two sealed fizzy drinks: shake one hard. Open the calm one slowly — gentle hiss, controlled release. Then (over a sink, or outside) open the shaken one. Same liquid, same gas — the only difference is how fast the pressure was let out. That's the whole science of eruption violence in ten seconds.
