How Petrified Wood Forms
The Stone Forest is full of trees that turned to solid rock — and it's hardening faster than it should. Only someone who knows the real steps can slow it down.
What you're training for
In the Stone Forest, petrified trunks stand exactly where they grew and the path between them is closing. The forest slows for whoever can walk the process back through its real steps, in order. Train here first; prove it in the simulation.
The science
- Petrification starts with fast burial — mud, ash or sand covers the wood before it can rot.
- Buried deep, there's no oxygen, so the decomposers that would normally eat the wood can't work.
- Mineral-rich groundwater seeps through, and silica fills the wood cell by cell until the whole log is stone — scientists call it permineralization.
- It takes thousands to millions of years, and it copies the wood so faithfully you can still count growth rings in solid rock.
