Day & Night

Dusk Hollow is stuck at sunset — and the fix depends on the one fact most people say backwards: day and night come from Earth turning, not from the Sun going anywhere.

What you're training for

In Dusk Hollow, the light has been low orange for hours. The day starts moving again for whoever can put sunrise-to-night in its true order. Train here first; prove it in the simulation.

The science

  • Earth spins once every 24 hours — that spin is the whole story of day and night.
  • Sunrise: your side of Earth turns toward the Sun. Midday: the Sun stands highest. Sunset: your side turns away. Night: you face out into space.
  • The Sun isn't moving around us — it only looks that way because we're the ones turning, like scenery from a merry-go-round.
  • It's always sunrise somewhere: while you eat dinner, a student on the far side of the world is squinting at dawn.

Teach it today — one lamp

Be the Earth. A lamp is the Sun. One student is Earth, nose as their hometown. They spin slowly in place and call it out: sunrise… noon… sunset… midnight. Then the trick question: did the lamp ever move? The misconception dies on the spot, in the student's own body.
